“Trust the science” is as anti-science as possible. The scientific method is based not on trust but on doubt. It is about questioning everything and redoing experiments to see that they are able to be replicated. “Trust the science” is a religious statement, grounded in a new faith, that of liberal “science.” It is actually just a call to authoritarianism and credentialism. We shouldn’t think for ourselves, we need to trust experts, even when it doesn’t make sense. Karl Popper argued that what gives science its legitimacy is its falsifiability—it is open to being wrong. But the new religion of liberals, a false notion of “trust the science,” is incapable of being false. You must accept their vaccine claims or you’re “wrong” and wrong has no rights.
The sad truth is that scientists are human, and they desire money and status like anyone else. This opens them up to faking data and corruption. A 2016 Nature survey found over 70% of scientists couldn’t reproduce someone else’s experiment. During the COVID pandemic, the CIA bribed top scientists to “agree” that COVID was natural and not lab created. Many scientists are also unwilling to take risks. They do research that replicates the well known conclusions already determined. For example, instead of working on a cure for cancer, people will focus on “proving” once again that smoking is bad for you. That’s what gets you the guaranteed funding and no pushback from those in power.
